I was almost sleeping in front of TV when I saw Miramax was closed by Disney´s and I felt a bit nostalgic. I dont understand the memory, but the Miramax logo of a sudden brings me to the mind the name of some great movies . And one was The English Patient. Anthony Minghella was really a great director, and made it a great movie. I saw it, twice, three times, and cry every time (I am a cry baby).
I know, I know… The story is fake (so many people are saying this to me again and again) and László de Almásy, wasnt as portrayed in the film, but this is not important.
A friend said to me cinema is a lot of lies. No, cinema is Magic. You save a bit of your to be part of another world. You laugh. You cry. You are in another time of history. In another time of planet.
What I really loved in this movie was the passion of the characters, the really beautiful scene in church, when Kip offer a present to Hana, showing to her the “afrescos” all around the walls… And the final scene, when Almásy dies, his last vision is the desert, a last flight with her dear Katharine. To me, the scene was a metaphor to the idea a bird can carry your soul to the other world. In this case, a plane carries Laszo and Katherine to a endless flight through the desert they loved…
This is what I call magic..
